In the near future, I learn from tv,
we will fight zombies
with guns and crude implements
in a broken down world
unwinding like a pocketwatch
Some will die, it’s true
And there will be brief
melodramatic mourning
as we laud the heroes
and the victims
Decay will be
the order of the day
dissolution and entropy
laying claim to our
precious dream of technology
And the last thing to go
say the tv prognosticators
will be our humanity
unless our grip on it
was slippery to begin with

Turning me to want and doubt
And despair
When all I want
Is to be the Buddah

Would you love again
Knowing what you know now?
That love will run away
Bored with the sameness
And comfort of a thousand nights
Run to hide its beautiful face
In the trees and sidewalks
And the lost light of stars
Because the joy is too strong
Or too weak or made thin
With time and the mundane
Love lives on the drug of newness
Always seeking, always singing
Always wanting the heady rush
It is not until
Love mellows and grows full
Of ashes
That it gains a new name
Which cannot be spoken

Everyone is wounded
Even as a child
Summer bundling into autumn
Then winter
The beauty of all things
Stolen by the cruelty of time
The drug of wanting
An insatiable dance of desire
And the inevitable disappointment
Of a finite world that does not pay
Respect to the conceit of
Infinite perfection
All tastes, all journeys, all loves
Falling short of the dream
That wounds us all
From the moment of waking
